The LBNL Project Management Office coordinates the Project Management Advisory Board for science and engineering projects (PMAB-SE) and for construction projects (PMAB-CP). The PMABs provide observations, recommendations, assistance, and assurance to LBNL Project Teams, their line management and Lab Senior Management that projects are managed and to be completed successfully. Each month, a portfolio of major science, engineering, facilities, and operations projects planned for the LBNL site or involving LBNL’s resources at an off-site location are reviewed by the PMAB-SE and PMAB-CP, which strives to proactively identify, pursue and provide advice concerning all project elements including, but not limited to scope, schedule, budget, risks and mitigation, and safety in execution.
PMAB committee membership consists of experienced project managers and functional experts from within and outside the Laboratory, tailored to meet the needs of the specific types of projects. Members are assigned to one or more projects to provide focused project tracking and communication. To encourage and allow for open and productive discussions between the Project Team and the board, attendance at PMAB-SE and PMAB-CP meetings are by invitation only.
